Glacier National Park preserves a glaciated landscape of forests, alpine meadows and lakes
with habitat for a wide variety of plant and animal life. The region is also called the Crown of the Continent, serving as the headwaters for rivers and streams that flow to the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico and Hudson Bay.
Glacier’s diversity of habitats support a wide range of plant and animal species,
including 30 plant species that are endemic to the region. Nearly 300 species of birds are found in the park, as well as over 70 mammals and thousands of insect species.
What is the role of the Endangered Species Act?
National parks would not be complete without the animals and plants that call them home. The Endangered Species Act is the most important tool to make sure species vital to the parks are protected for the long term.
